2017 Year in Review
At our final Composite meeting of the year, Lt Michael Liu presented all of our accomplishments and achievements of the past year.
We gained 1 new Mission Pilot (Lt Simon Morton), one transfered Transport Mission Pilot (Maj Eashan Samak), 5 Mission Observers (Maj Benjamin Karabian, Lt Simon Morton, Lt Matt Saak, Maj Eashan Samak, and Lt Kate Scott), and 2 new Airborne Photographers (Lt Michael Liu and Lt Kate Scott). This doubled our number of rated Mission Observers from the previous year. Congrats to all!
Squadron 51 participated in 6 Missing Aircraft missions, 2 FEMA Fire Survey missions, 35+ non-distress ELT/PLB missions, and 3 Counter Drug missions.
Our Squadron hosted major activities: a Basic SAREX and Squadron Training Activity, as well as several Orientation Rides for Cadets.
We upgraded our squadron headquarters and established a small library of educational books.
Our Cadet program earned the Quality Cadet Unit Award, meeting a minimum number of criteria for a succesful unit. This was the first time we have earned this award in seven years.
Our squadron also earned the Composite Squadron of the Year for Group 1. A big congratulations to all of the hard work our Cadets have been putting in to achieve such an honor.
Lt Michael Liu earned the Meritorious Achievement Award at the California Wing Conference for his work on the New Alerting System, along with Maj Charles Christian of Group 1.
