New Alerting System
On July 12th, Group 1 launched a new Mission Alerting System. Squadron 51’s Lt Michael Liu, along with Major Charles Christian (Group 1) have worked diligently to design a program that improves our current alerting system. The new system allows automated alerts to be sent via EMail, SMS and a phone call (rather than just by EMail). From there, an Incident Commander can login to a dashboard to see all of the responses and activate members who are available. It also tracks response statistics for future reporting needs.
As testament to its success, during a test phase in June, 65 members (80% of the pool) responded to a test alert within 3 minutes. One day later, a real mission alert went out via the old ‘EMail only’ way and only 4 members responded with availability during the first half hour! Clearly, it will be a change in the tides for our missions and we hope it will provide the chance for faster emergency response and more involvement from our members.
